So far, I have not been able to meet my yearly reading goals since the pandemic started. It’s a mixture of increased teaching/supervision workload, life being a pain in the you-know-what and the fact that I’m learning music and languages. So, I don’t beat myself up about it too much. Traditionally I read more between January to February and if I can finish 1-2 books a month while skimming through other things as needed for work, I count that as a win.
So far I have finished (since the last post):
- The Dragon Reborn (Book Three of the Wheel of Time) — Robert Jordan
- We Free The Stars –– Hafsah Faizal
They were both really thick books though, and I deeply enjoyed reading them!
I’m also close to finishing two other books I’m reading for a couple of research articles, so I won’t say much about that, I’ve learned to be more secretive about my academic works in progress. Learned the hard way, if you know what I mean.
Other books I am reading include the first Outlander book and I’m dipping into various volumes of the History of Middle Earth, which I have now collected in its entirety. There’s also a chunk of theory books I’ve been dipping into both for my own research articles and my supervision (my supervision load is extremely heavy).
There are also language books! Mostly for Irish, Latin and French. For the rest, I surrender myself to the tender mercies of duolingo. But I’ll post more about that in the next post.
And that’s it for now!
